YNGWIE MALMSTEEN: Early Videos To Be Re-Released On DVD
October 10, 2006According to a posting on legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen's official web site, two of Yngwie's earliest live concert videos — "Trial By Fire: Live in Leningrad" and "Live '85" — will soon be re-released on DVD by Universal.
Malmsteen's 1989 release, "Trial By Fire: Live in Leningrad", was recorded live at Leningrad SKK Stadium. The CD features a blazing version of JIMI HENDRIX' "Spanish Castle Magic", which closes the show. "Trial By Fire: Live in Leningrad" was recorded with Joe Lynn Turner on vocals, Jens and Anders Johansson on keyboards and drums (respectively),and Barry Dunaway on bass.
"Live '85" was filmed at Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo on January 24, 1985, during the "Rising Force" world tour. The 85-minute video features the lineup of Yngwie J. Malmsteen (guitar),Jeff Scott Soto (lead vocals),Marcel Jacob (bass),Jens Johansson (keyboards) and Anders Johansson (drums).
As previously reported, Malmsteen will embark on a Scandinavian tour in December. Exact cities and dates for the trek — which will include stops in Sweden and Finland — will be announced soon.
Yngwie Malmsteen and drummer Patrick Johansson reportedly went into Malmsteen's Miami, Florida studio in July to begin recording demos for the next YNGWIE MALMSTEEN'S RISING FORCE album. Doogie White (ex-RAINBOW) will once again handle the lead vocals on the CD, which is expected to surface in early 2007.
YNGWIE MALMSTEEN recently completed a U.S. tour in support of his last two projects, "Unleash the Fury" and "Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra" DVD.
"Unleash the Fury", which hit stores July 26, 2005 through Spitfire Records, has been receiving rave reviews from critics and fans alike and has even been hailed as one of his best works to date. Also released last year was Yngwie's long-awaited "Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra" DVD, which was filmed in 2001 with the New Japan Philharmonic, conducted by Taizo Takemoto. Malmsteen has performed his concerto suite live with an orchestra just seven times. An interview with Malmsteen is included as a special bonus feature.
